Self is not happiness
"Since there is no chance of the thought 'I am happy' arising in that State of Non-Duality, the Self transcends happiness; It is not something having the form of happiness." (Guru Ramana Vachana Mala 294; Sri Ramanasramam, 1998)
In this regard, Sri K. Lakshmana Sarma notes that when the Self is described as blissful, bliss or as happiness, such a description is only tentative. When the sadhaka's mind matures s/he will understand that the Self is better described as 'being, in the state of tRpti (satiety or desirelessness)'.

Indeed.
It pays to read the literature which presents Maharshi's conversations.
